Entrepreneur Support

Afghan Entrepreneur Support Initiative

Unisfere supports small business owners, market sellers, and early-stage entrepreneurs in Afghanistan in building the foundations of a viable, sustainable business. Through online workshops and structured guidance, participants learn practical skills to define their offering, communicate their value, and build credibility with customers.

The program focuses on what is achievable in the Afghan context: local market positioning, clear communication, and basic operational discipline — not promises of online sales or rapid growth.

The Problem

Afghanistan has a large informal economy with significant entrepreneurial activity. Many individuals and small enterprises produce quality goods and services but lack the tools to present themselves professionally, attract repeat customers, or plan beyond day-to-day operations. Access to business training is limited, particularly for women and youth outside major urban centres.

Unisfere’s contribution is not capital — it is knowledge, structure, and confidence.

What the Program Covers

Workshop Topics

  • Defining your business: what you sell, who you sell to, and why it matters
  • Creating a simple brand identity: name, visual consistency, trust signals
  • Customer communication: in person, via WhatsApp, on social media
  • Basic record-keeping and financial planning
  • Understanding your market and identifying growth opportunities

Format

  • Online, cohort-based: groups of 15–25 participants per cohort
  • 6–8 sessions of 90 minutes each, delivered over 6–8 weeks
  • Conducted in Dari or Pashto with written materials in both languages
  • Facilitated by Unisfere volunteers with relevant business or marketing experience

Priority Participants

The program prioritises women-owned businesses, youth-led startups, and entrepreneurs in provinces with limited access to business support. A merit-based selection process is used for cohorts to ensure readiness and commitment.

What Success Looks Like

  • Participants can clearly articulate their business offering
  • At least 70% of participants complete the full cohort
  • Participants produce a one-page business profile by the end of the program
  • Follow-up survey at 3 months to track whether they applied the learning
