NGO Capacity Building Workshops
Afghanistan has hundreds of small civil society organisations and local NGOs working on development, health, education, and humanitarian issues. Many have committed staff and strong community relationships, but limited internal capacity for the administrative and reporting requirements that international donors and partners expect.
Unisfere offers short, practical online workshops to help local NGO staff build skills in monitoring and evaluation, proposal writing, and donor reporting — delivered by volunteers from Unisfere’s own network who work in these areas professionally.
The Gap This Fills
Capacity building in the NGO sector is often expensive, delivered in English, or designed for large organisations. Small Afghan NGOs are frequently excluded from these opportunities while simultaneously being expected to demonstrate capacities they have never been trained in.
Unisfere’s existing volunteer network — which includes M&E officers, program managers, and development professionals — is the resource that makes this program executable without paid staff.
Workshop Topics
Module 1: Monitoring & Evaluation Basics
- What M&E is and why donors require it
- Setting measurable indicators for program goals
- Simple data collection tools: surveys, observation checklists, attendance tracking
- Writing an M&E report that a donor can use
Module 2: Proposal Writing
- How donors make funding decisions
- Structuring a proposal: problem statement, objectives, activities, budget, outcomes
- Common mistakes that get proposals rejected
- Practical exercise: drafting a one-page concept note
Module 3: Donor Reporting
- What a progress report must contain
- Aligning narrative and financial reporting
- How to report problems or delays professionally
- Maintaining trust with donors through transparent communication
Delivery
Each module runs as a standalone online session of 2–3 hours, delivered in Dari. Participants receive written materials in Dari after each session. Workshops are free to attend and limited to 20–30 participants per cohort to allow interaction.
Unisfere volunteers facilitate sessions. Guest facilitators from partner organisations may be invited for specific modules.
